Hornall Anderson Movie Tuesday: Helvetica

POSTED BY Oliver Hutton on Apr 1, 2008

Last night was the first Hornall Anderson Movie Tuesday event, and nothing could be better for a first showing to a bunch of design geeks than the documentary “Helvetica” by Gary Hustwit. The film chronicles the history of Helvetica, its ubiquity, and its love or disdain among designers in the world today. Filmed as a series of interviews, the film features appearances by Erik Speikerman, Massimo Vignelli, Michael Beirut, Stefan Sagmeister, Paula Scher, Jonathan Hoefler, Tobias Frere-Jones, and Matthew Carter to name a few.

There was a great turnout for the event even despite the fact that the posters in the bathrooms were stolen by the party “poopers.” Everybody seemed to enjoy the film, and as usual there was plenty of beer, wine, and snacks to make it through (sadly though, no “JuJu Chews”).

Stay tuned for our next event on Tuesday, April 29th. Thanks Bruce, Mary, and team for the idea, and making it happen.
