Did you know?
• Less than 1% of the water supply on earth can be used as drinking water.
• A small drip from a faucet can waste as much as 75 liters of water a day.
• Nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water.
• In a 5-minute shower we use 25 to 50 gallons of water.
Building on the momentum generated from last year’s Earth Day, Hornall Anderson’s Green Team raised the bar this year on the firm’s commitment to making a difference in the world.
Using the launch of the Ripple Effect website – one of our most recent projects – as a springboard, we chose “Sustaining Clean Water” as the theme for the day, holding an in-office challenge to contribute enough money to purchase one well kit for a Malawi village through the Ripple Effect organization. Within the first three days of the 10-day challenge, the firm collected enough for TWO well kits! And the donations continued to flow in.
During this time, HA employees tracked their progress on a “water meter” projected onto the lobby’s flat screen. Small signs were posted around the office as discovered water factoids, to be referenced during a lunchtime trivia game. And upon arriving Wednesday morning, employees were greeted with water image screensavers that had taken over the conference rooms’ overhead screens, as well as an animated “wall of moving water” projected onto a glass wall in our lobby and accompanied by sound – the first thing all visitors saw upon entering our office.
“Aside from being rock star web designers, the folks at Hornall Anderson do indeed walk the walk when it comes to philanthropy, as demonstrated by the pooling of employee funds to purchase two wells and other items through our Ripple Effect website. Somewhere in Malawi in the very near future, there will be two villages that will have clean water for the first time because HADW employees chose to give so generously. Thanks HADW!”
