What do you get when you mix crazy, creative artists with indelible ink, a 5-ton steamroller, and a local iconic weatherman? The Steamroller Smackdown, of course! A team from Hornall Anderson's Seattle office recently participated in the annual School of Visual Concepts “Steamroller Smackdown” at the South Lake Union Block Party.
The event consists of 20 teams of top artists and design firms from around the Northwest who design, hand-carve and print oversized, letterpress posters with a steamroller instead of a traditional printing press. This year’s poster theme was Northwest Stories and Storytellers. And since the PNW weather is often a story in itself with myriad ways to interpret and describe our precipitation, our team chose to honor Steve Pool as one of Seattle’s most iconic weather forecasters.
It was a big hit with the crowd, and we were excited to have one of KOMO’s own photographers present to capture the process and later feature it on Seattle Refined.
