During the holidays, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of gift buying for family and friends, and burning the midnight oil to finish up fast approaching deadlines, so you can take some much deserved vacation time away. But despite all of that, it’s important to us to take some time to support those less fortunate.
For the second year in a row – and what will no doubt become an annual tradition for us going forward – we competed internally to see which of our 5 wings could collect the most food items to donate to the White Center Food Bank in Seattle in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Even in this tough economic environment, we rallied and succeeded in donating 1,425 pounds of food and $100 in grocery gift cards.
Continuing the spirit of giving, we then turned our focus to the YWCA’s annual “Adopt-A-Family” holiday gift giving program, in which we’ve participated for over 10 years. We “adopted” 2 families (each made up of 4 children and 1 parent) and collected a total of 59 gifts for them.
So, in the midst of the holiday chaos, we encourage everyone to slow down and find your own way of making a difference for someone less fortunate.
