Tohoshinki’s latest CD concept plays off of the title “Tone” which has multiple meanings. Tone [tohn] 1. noun. Any sound considered with reference to its quality, pitch, strength, source, etc. (All of which Tohoshinki are well known for). 2. verb. To change the color of (photography).
When I first opened the package I immediately took it apart and found that the yellow “tone” of the CD case is made from a yellow tinted clear acetate. I wondered why they didn’t just print the yellow on the booklet inside. I also wondered why the CD was blank with no printing on it. I flipped it over and noted that the front of the CD showed through the yellow acetate from the outside back. Ah-ha.
Then I opened the booklet I discovered another reason. They made it interactive using the “Password” technique. See the before and afters although the yellow doesn’t work so well.
The photos of Tohoshinki also reinforce the “Tone” theme. The CD also came in pink or blue (probably works better in these colors) and now I want to get those too!
